David Dahlgren (b. 1947) was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He obtained a Bachelor of Music in composition from the University of Manitoba; he also holds a Bachelor of Education from the University of Winnipeg and an MA (Semiotics) from Athabasca University.
Like Dmitri Kabalevsky, David writes piano and vocal music for children because he feels that such music should be fun to play as well as instructive. Much of David’s music for children can be found in a variety of syllabi in Canada. His compositions also include orchestral, chamber, and choral music as well as concert music for piano. His compositions have been performed in North America, Europe and Asia.
He resides in Moosomin, Saskatchewan, where he is a piano technician, music teacher and adjudicator.
